Clare Parry-Jones
A B O U T
I am a multi disciplinary artist, creating performance land art, site responsive theatre, clown (theatre, street, healthcare settings), paper art and costumes. I facilitate workshops for students and professionals in Developing Presence, Theatre, Clown and Connection. My workshops are appropriate for anyone who wishes to establish a deeper connection to themselves and their environment, in whatever setting this may be (theatre, clown, public speaking, daily life). I perform and teach in the UK and internationally (Europe, America, Japan, Cambodia, India, Kazakhstan, Russia, Siberia). I trained at Warwick University (History of Art and Fine Art), The Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (Acting), The Institute of Dramatherapy (Roehampton) and École Philippe Gaulier. It was during my dramatherapy training that I started researching laughter and the art of clown. I then trained at Circus Space (London) and with various international clown mentors, including Sue Morrison (Canada), Philippe Gaulier (Paris), Angela de Castro (London) and Spymonkey.
My particular interests are in site responsive performance, land art (with Japanese paper), ritual theatre, butoh dance and the ancient roots of clown. Research into shamanism, clown and paper has taken me to Siberia and Japan regularly over the past few years. I am based in South Wales (UK) and have received funding from the Arts Council of Wales and Wales Arts International.
